Are you into photography? Looking for exciting and exotic locations to shoot? If you are, then do I have a spectacular spot for you! Stradbroke Island is what I like to refer as the perfect canvas for photography. Every angle on this island, results in an amazing shot. The breathtaking natural surroundings assault the senses at every turn, meaning the only limits are what you can imagine, and of course you're expertise with a camera.

Stradbroke Island is really just a massive amount of sand that is located on a base of bedrock. Most of this bedrock is below sea level, but a few sections actually rest above sea level. These levels form the majestic headlands at Point Lookout along with the rockier outcrops in Dunwich.

The island consists of three towns. Dunwich, located on the western part of the island is where visitors arrive, either by water taxi or ferry. Amity Point makes up the northern side, and Point Lookout rest on the islands eastern side.

Stradbroke Island has a wonderful amount of diversity in its flora and fauna population, along with a wide range of habitats. It's known worldwide, for long white sand beaches and beautiful views of the sea. This combination, really allows anyone who loves photography, to capture some awe inspiring shots.

There are a few areas, I would highly suggest you checking out while here. The first is Cylinder Beach, it's a favourite among the surfer crowd, but more importantly it has an amazing headland. This is due in part, to the Pandanus trees, which are great scenery for shooting.

Next up I would visit Myora Conservation Park. It's only a few kilometres from Dunwich, and it houses the Myora Springs. These springs, allow for an opportunity, to beautifully capture the movement of water. The ideal time to get this type of shot is on an overcast day, in order to avoid contrasting light.

The final must see stop is Point Lookout. It's a normal occurrence to see dolphins, turtles, sharks and rays, surrounding the rocks on this section of the island. From the months of June through November it's also quite possible to spot Humpback whales near the island. As you can imagine, this presents a rare opportunity for photography enthusiasts.

In general, Stradbroke Island has few opportunities for great night time photography. Although you may be able to capture star trails, or make use of the moonlight for extended night exposures.

Hopefully, this article on Stradbroke Island photography has opened your eyes to what a wonderful place this is to visit if you're serious about your photography. It really offers some one of kind features you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world.
