Find the stroked pose. Make the angle uniquely mine; yet universal in translation. As an amateur photographer those are some things I do before clicking the shutter. Every picture tells a story of how I see the world and if someone, other than me, gets the story I’m attempting to tell, then my pleasure in taking photos is all the more magical. I like places that are unique and special in some way. According to an article found in The Sydney Morning Herald” dated December 7, 2007 Southport, “located at the northern end of the city of Gold Coast”, sounds like a city fitting my criteria to a tee.
The people in Southport are a mainly tourist, business conductors, and locals. To me this is a fitting contrast for the photographer hoping to tell the story of diversity in culture that blends in a nice setting under a warm, mild sun. The temperature in summer is 60 to 75 degrees most of the time with just enough humidity to remind you of the river Nerang upon whose mouth the township sits. Photos in a place like this can range from exotic wildlife, breathtaking water scenes to an ancient culture found nowhere else in the world.
As with my hometown located on the west coast of America this coastal city has a river system ending its journey at the ocean. Colours found in these types of environments are vibrant purples, ruby reds, sapphire blues mixed in with pinks and yellows up and down the spectrum. Never-ending colours traverse from bright and open to mysterious and dark. The photographer is instantly lost behind the camera.
Tidal flows dominate the environment. I see waterways in the same place every day, but every now and then, a new one creeps up and according the Gold Coast City Council the tide dominates life in and around the township of Southport as well. The wildlife in this coastal city is so far from the ones found where I live. They range from the commonly known curlews to the unique koala found only down under.
Tantalizingly presented during my research is the beauty of Southport. I believe it is well worth the time and expense to present the story of a place filled with everything the photographer who is looking for simulative, creative story telling through photo art could want. In the beginning I stated I like taking pictures of places that are unique and special in some way and Southport meets that desire in every way.
