Palm Beach is a suburb in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is located between two bodies of water – the Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek. The suburb has around 14,000 residents who call it home.

The award giving body of Australia Beautiful Council bestowed on Palm Beach the cleanest beach in Australia award for a good number of years. The best thing with the beach spot is there are no huge crowds to contend with especially on weekends. Surfing and fishing are major activities in the place. An artificial reef was built to protect the beach and marine life as well as prevent erosion.

Palm Beach is near the scenic Gold Coast Hinterland known for its rainforest, numerous birds and pristine inlets. The walks in the Gold Coast Hinterland provide beautiful scenery such as beaches, parklands and boardwalks. The public walk is equipped with tables and chairs. The Andy Frizzell Park in the area is a great place for picnics and other outdoor activities. A track leading to Burleigh Head National Park provides an unhampered view of the coast.

You will probably love to capture not just the water activities in the area but the bird life in Palm Beach. There are plenty of opportunities to capture birds on film in the place.

However, bear in mind that bird photography is probably one of the most challenging kinds of photography. Birds in the wild never stay put in one place. When you approach them, they will most likely fly away. Since birds are small and their movements are swift, you may require large telephoto lenses and quick focusing camera bodies to be able to take pictures of the birds.

When choosing a location for bird photography, you must consider the lighting. This is the most essential requirement that photographers need to look into if they want to bring out the beauty of the birds. Direct front lighting will showcase the colours and feather details. Make sure that your shadow is pointing towards the bird. This will ensure that the bird is lit evenly and there are no distracting shadows reflecting on the picture.

Take pictures of the birds either in early morning or late afternoon. Also, do not take pictures if there are structures blocking the light such as houses or trees. The pictures of birds should be taken in open fields to ensure that the subject is lit evenly.

Place feeders and a perch in the desired area to force the bird to land on it. Before taking pictures of the bird, make sure that the background looks great through the camera lens. The background must provide varied colours, the perch must be placed in a great angle such as a 45 degree horizontal angle and there are no obstructions as well as unnecessary objects within the frame. When you remember all this, you can be sure that Palm Beach bird photography will definitely be worth your effort and time.
