If you are an avid photographer or even just a lover of the outdoors and beautiful scenery, then pack up your camera and any necessities and head to Mermaid Beach, Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia.
This area is not only historic but also beautiful. Mermaid Beach is named after explorer John Oxley's famed ship that he sailed in when he discovered this area and others nearby. You will not be at a loss for amazing scenery shots, as the area is well preserved. Make sure to bring a wide angle lens so that you can capture not only the calm ocean at night but also the surfers riding the breakers during the day. If you wish to get even more action shots, various triathlons and marathons also call Mermaid Beach home to their events. For these types of shots, you will want to adjust your shutter speed to the quickest possible to avoid the blur. There are even a few Indy car races that occur in this area. If you plan your photography trip during one of these, try to get a press pass so that you can get a few good close-up shots of champions and pack leaders.
Not only will you be able to shoot gorgeous panoramic photos of the seemingly endless coastline, but you might also catch a few paparazzi shots of the rich and famous who inhabit the nearby ocean-side apartments. Mermaid Beach is well known for its famed "Millionaire's Row," which are apartments owned by many famous and infamous names. You can catch the celebrities enjoying the beach, shopping at one of the various high end fashion stores, or perhaps dining al fresco at one of the many outdoor restaurants. For celebrity photos, since you will be at a distance, be sure to bring every piece of equipment necessary to shoot as defined a photo as possible from as far away as possible.
Beyond land, you can also explore the Great Barrier Reef. If you have waterproof gear, you might be able to catch brilliantly coloured schools of fish swimming through underwater forests of brain coral and fire coral. Be careful to not bring heavy underwater equipment, so that you can avoid damaging the sea life and can also make a quick getaway in case you encounter some not so friendly fish. There are many places to rent scuba gear, and many shop owners know where you can snap the best and most beautiful photos of an undisturbed underwater world.
